Sales Forecast Portal
Plan the year for every dealer, track each of them against it day by day, and write their monthly report ready to send.

Where it started
As a freelancer I built an Excel/VBA sales management system for an automotive distributor in Ireland: around 20 dealerships, 10–15 models and more than 500 lines of VBA. Annual targets were split by model and month with launch-month rules, then turned into whole-number daily plans. Approximate matching handled dealer and model names that differed between incoming datasets, showing the likely match for the user to confirm.
That workbook could only be open on one machine at a time. This portal rebuilds it as a web application, carrying the apportionment method across exactly so the figures people work to don’t move.
How a target becomes a daily plan
- Target firstOne number per dealer for the year.
- Curve secondTwelve seasonality percentages shape the months and always add to 100.
- Split thirdEach model takes its share; a mid-year launch compresses into the months it’s on sale.
- Days lastEach month is spread across its days, so plan-to-date means the plan due by today.
Tracking the month
- Pace, not just totals: actual against the plan due by today, the cumulative gap, and a run-rate projection.
- Network heatmap and dealer scorecard, sortable and exportable.
- Paste import that reads a registrations report, asks once about unfamiliar names and remembers the answer.
- Monthly dealer report written from the figures, emailed with every send logged.
- Three access levels and a record of every edit, import and send.
Why not the workbook
| What you do | In a workbook | In the portal |
|---|---|---|
| Send one dealer their monthly pack | Filter, screenshot, paste into a deck, export, attach | Pick the dealer and month, then send |
| Enter the registrations report | Retype every figure | Paste the block in |
| Know the figures are current | Remember to press recalculate | Plan rebuilds as you save |
| Two people at once | Not possible | Everyone signs in with their own role |
Every dealer name, contact, model and figure in the screenshot and PDF is invented. The client is not named.
